Paper, Persuasive Paper, PowerPoint, Presentations, Research Papers

Pretty much no one is going to make it through college without having to present a PowerPoint presentation or a paper that presents data. HOW you present that data is important. You can’t expect people to read your mind and so you have to present information in a way that is easy for them to read, understand, and process. This article focuses on PowerPoint, but many of the “rules” work with papers, too. Harvard Business Review gives you the details, but here are there 7 main points:

1) Make sure your data can be seen (Even at a distance)

2) Focus most on the points your data illustrates

3) Share one — and only one — major point from each chart

4) Label chart components clearly

5) Visually highlight “Aha!” zones

6) Write a slide title that reinforces the data’s point

7) Present to your audience, not to your data

There are many people who have issues with presenting. Hopefully these tips will make it easier for you. To sum it up in one sentence: make your data simple, clear, and easy to read then tell it TO people.

As we push into the last part of the semester, we’ve gathered together some new books about student life. We’ve included books that cover situations you might encounter as a student and books that may be of use to you in both school and as you start on your post-Kirkwood life. There are more books on these topics available in the circulating collection at the same call numbers. These titles are housed in Cedar Rapids, but you can request them to be delivered to any of the other centers at any time.

Also check out our post from Fall 2014 where we spelled out some of the services around campus that you might not know about:
