Sometimes when a book is challenged, or even when a school or public library administration think a book MIGHT be challenged, they will create a compromise and require students to have a signed permission slip before they will check out or let students read certain books. This limitation places it beyond reach for parents who object or even those who don’t think it’s worth the effort to return the form.
Have you ever read Fahrenheit 451? It’s a story warning of what happens when you let the government have total control of information and live instead immersed inside of screens that constantly fed entertainment. Unfortunately one school did not get the irony of requiring a permission slip to let a kid read Fahrenheit 451. The father of one of the students did.
