We’d like to extend our warm thanks to everyone who took the time to participate in our faculty survey. We think the crunched time frame of the semester, with all the snow days, discouraged participation. We received the lowest amount of responses we’ve ever gotten, only 60. We’d really appreciate more response specifically on the database question so even if you didn’t take the survey we’d appreciated any comments on using EBSCOhost databases versus Gale. We are wondering if there is enough support to keep paying for both systems. If you have only tried EBSCO before, play with Gale when you get the chance. We truly appreciate the responses we received and have tried to respond to the feedback. We also included campus location in the survey questions and were able to see that we had a good mix of people from across the different locations of the college.

Part 1 and Part 2 of our response
We’d also like to take a moment and thank you for the kind words we got from many of the survey responses. We shared some during Library Week.
Our biggest change this year is that we’ve added access to a database of information literacy modules now called Credo Instruct. This purchased system has modules that can be inserted into your Talon class. Students can be assigned to work through modules outside of class. For each course you can decide how much you want to include at the section level within any module, you can use or exclude text, videos, and quizzes. You can use them as an object in Talon. Quiz results can be fed directly into your grade book. It’s entirely up to you which sections you use and which things you don’t.

- Sources of Information
- Evaluating Information (Including Fake News)
- Presenting Research and Data
- Citations and Academic Integrity (Including APA, MLA, Plagiarism)

Just because we’re offering this flipped classroom model, does NOT mean we aren’t still coming to your class in person. In fact, besides doing an introduction to library resources and information literacy we have a wide variety of library instruction sessions we can tailor to your class! Think of us as you plan your next – hopefully severe weather free – syllabus.
Request Specific Things
People who included their e-mail address in their response were contacted directly about questions and requests, but we wanted to give everyone a chance to find out what we’ve done in response to the survey.
We have added some new books on photography. This fall we’re going to trial several databases due to requests, two on film analysis and one of videos for mental health.

Textbooks on Reserve
There were also some requests to put all textbooks used in the college or a particular textbook on reserve. The library policy is to NOT purchase textbooks. This is because given the wide range of titles used by different instructors even within a single class, the cost would be prohibitive to provide them all. If any instructor or the department wants to loan us a copy of the textbook they use, we will be glad to put it on reserve.
The circulation department of both branches of the Kirkwood Library Services has material that has been placed on reserve by instructors for their students. The instructor may bring the material to the library and fill out a reserve form or print the form online and send it to the library with the book, article, etc. (Please refer to Course Reserve Policy to determine the type of material that is allowed).
The majority of the materials are placed on closed reserve meaning they are for use only in the library. Students may make copies or scans of the required pages.
