To schedule an orientation, call the reference desk (Cedar Rapids 398-5697, Iowa City 887-3612) and ask to speak to a librarian. Any librarian can help you schedule an orientation with a few basic pieces of information such as the title of the class, your name, the best way to contact you, the kind of orientation you want and the information covered. We’ll probably ask some follow up questions to make sure we do what works best for you.
Be aware we may not be able to accommodate everyone’s first scheduling choice if orientations for other classes are already scheduled or if there are other time related conflicts, but we will do our best and normally people get their first choices for times. Please schedule early to ensure that you do.
Library orientations aren’t just tours of the library and how to use EBSCOhost (although of course we do a lot of those). Find out more why you should bring a librarian into your class and a partial list of topics we cover.
Librarians are also available to collaborate before the orientation in order to make sure we cover what you want in the best way possible and tie the lesson into your class objectives. To learn more about what the library can do for you at our faculty services page.
